Three Polish bands are playing this year at Eurosonic Noorderslag! The event, which takes place in Groningen, Netherlands is highly opinion-forming and the biggest European music showcase festival. The 32nd edition will happen between January 17th – 21st.
Eurosonic is also a huge platform for networking. The conference, to which Polish delegates will attend with the support of Don’t Panic! We’re from Poland, is a place for exchange and meeting representatives of the music industry. The event attracts over 4,000 delegates every year, including 400 international festivals.
Coals is a young duo from Poland consisting of Katarzyna Kowalczyk and Łukasz Rozmysłowski. The band name refers to their region of Silesia which is famous for coal mines. They dubbed their sound fittingly 'cold pop'. The Quietus added: 'dreamy ethereal pop, drawing both from electronic music and elements of folk'. There are also hip hop beats and ambient sounds in their hypnotic mix too.
Sonar is a Warsaw-based Polish band, consisting of producer Lukasz Stachurko (one half of RYSY), drummer Rafal Dutkiewicz, pianist Artur Boguslawski and debuting vocalist Lena Osinska. Fascination with trip-hop as well as sensual electronic music resulted in a truly original sound. The use of only Polish lyrics, live drums, a string quartet, many special guests and above all Lena's vocals is what makes their 2016 album Petle so unique.
Multi-instrumentalist, singer, improviser whose music has been favourably compared to Smog, Papa M, Vincent Gallo, Bonnie 'Prince' Billy and Bon Iver. Mateusz has worked with Hugo Race, Piotr Kurek, Paweł Szamburski, Patryk Zakrocki, Hubert Zemler and Resina among others. Franczak is a co-founder and participant of many interdisciplinary artistic projects and workshops (ie. The School for Improvisational Music, NY, USA). The artist from Warsaw has performed at many festivals in Poland and abroad. On his charming solo release Long Story Short, he swapped his trademark saxophone for a guitar and revealed his vocal skills. His second album Night-night will be published in the spring of 2018.
